Picture the scene: you’ve planned the perfect Christmas Dinner and Boxing Day Lunch. The presents have all been thoughtfully selected and beautifully wrapped. And now you’d love to add the finishing touches with personalised, hand written, calligraphy place names and gift tags. Well, now you can.
This workshop will give you the skills to be able to create traditional or modern style hand lettered phrases and words using a traditional dip pen and ink. It could be your way into a new skill, mindful hobby or a way to unlock another aspect of your creative side by learning the art of beautiful writing.
At The Kitchen are delighted to welcome back Fiona West (@lt.m.id) and this time she’ll be using her skills as a calligrapher to get you up and running in the art of beautiful writing.
Fiona will start by taking you through the basic tools: how to assemble them and use them. These will be yours to keep at the end of the workshop. She will demo the basic pen strokes and shapes from which individual letters are formed and you will have a go yourselves before being taken through the groups of minuscule letters and how to form them. Then it’s over to you to write them out yourself with the help of the guidelines and worksheets provided. Fiona will be on hand to give you 121 support and assistance as and when you need it..
By the end of the morning you will have the grounding in Modern Calligraphy skills. In the afternoon, after a well earned lunch break provided by At The Kitchen, Fiona will provide a selection of designs and ‘how-to’ instructions, for you to make your own wrapping paper, cards, gift tags or place names. There will be a selection of coloured inks, brush pens, paper and card for you to choose from.
You will take home a full set of Wintery and Christmassy designs that can be used as they are or used as reference for more of your own ideas. You will have the basic equipment needed for you then to go on and create more of your own bespoke and unique festive finishing touches.
Fiona has been practising calligraphy for several years now, often using it to enhance the designs she makes as a wedding florist. In a past life she had a very successful teaching career, so you can be assured of high quality tuition during the workshop.
